An Act of Courage
Wanting to change or improve ourselves is natural, we may all be aware of areas in our lives where we would like to be different, do things differently or make improvements. We may have an idea of what attributes we would like to have or change and some idea of where we are now and where we would like to be. It could be that we make the decision, that there are some things, we are no longer willing to accept or indignities that we are no longer willing to suffer. However, knowing that there are things we could change is one thing - having the courage to change is another. Some people may feel that changing and seeking help to change, is admitting defeat or a sign of weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth, seeking to change is an act of courage and a sign of mental strength and good health.
Training your mind and body
I have always been interested in how we think and specifically what kind of thinking and beliefs we need to be confident, self-assured and in control. How is it that sometimes we can deal with stress, difficult situations or circumstances and thrive, whilst at other times we cope less well? What strategies, qualities and traits do we need to be Mentally Tough and Resilient and how do we use them to successfully get through life's challenges and succeed.
I'm sure you are aware that our thoughts, beliefs and what we tell ourselves has an enormous impact on our lives. What we tell ourselves ultimately determines what we are (or not) able to do. What we tell ourselves determines how we feel, whether we are happy or miserable. In turn how we feel affects us physically, as our bodies can suffer and be damaged by mental stress.
The Winning Edge
Hypnotherapy is an exceptionally effective method for improving your performance and Mental Toughness, whether this is business or personal. Many top professionals from the worlds of business, entertainment, politics and sport use hypnosis to remain competitive and gain the advantage. You can constantly develop your mental and physical powers and enhance your own understanding of yourself and others. You can strengthen your confidence, be more at ease with who you are and more self-assured with who you can become. You can be mentally tough, raise your game and improve your aim. For Mental Toughness and Resilience I use the following methods and I also teach them to you, so that you can use them for life. I work in partnership with you, so that you can think clearly and deal with life's demands and pressures head on.
Hypnotherapy
Our memories are stored as mental images - some good, some bad. We all create images in our minds of what we want and don't want to happen or how we would like to be. Having Mental Toughness means that we can control our mental images so that they are "getting us where we want to go" rather than causing us fear, anxiety and uncertainty.
Hypnotherapy is an excellent tool for training your mind and making it sharper and more focused, not only when the going gets tough, but also to maintain mental fitness and concentration. This mental training gives you access to the inner resources you need to deal effectively with life's challenges and demands and to cope with stress, anxiety and frustration. You can learn methods that enable you to achieve deep relaxation and mental focus. As a result you will be calmer, more able to relax and get a good night's sleep. Hypnotherapy is a tool for life and I teach self-hypnosis so that you can use these methods whenever you need to.
You are what you think!
Rational Thinking
Rational thinking is essential for Mental Toughness. You are what you think. Our thinking can either help us or hinder us; lead us to victory or defeat. If our thoughts are not helping us “get where we want to go”, then we can change them. By looking at our thoughts and understanding errors in our thinking, we can replace unhelpful, irrational thinking with rational thinking. The key to rational thinking is that it helps us meet our needs and supports us in our aims, objectives and survival. Rational thinking is “goal directed” thinking and therefore a tool for life. Rational thinking includes elements of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT, Aaron Beck) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT, Albert Ellis). It is important to recognise that, our thoughts are vital in creating our emotions and feelings. If we change our thoughts we change how we feel.
Physical and Mental Relaxation
How well you cope with pressure and stress can determine how successful you are in reaching your goals. Life can be stressful but rather than run away from stress we can learn how to effectively cope with it and increase our tolerance and resilience. Learning to access and use our natural relaxation response means that we can get a grip on stress and deal with more stressful situations. Mental stress manifests itself in our physical bodies and is harmful to our physical health and immune systems. Learning relaxation techniques means that you are able to relax your mind and body at any time and in any situation, allowing you to remain calm, centred and in control.
Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR)
Traumatic Incident Reduction is a non-hypnotic, person-centred, simple and highly structured method for permanently eliminating the negative effects of past traumas. Past traumatic incidents might include events where we were (and continue to be) adversely affected, such as crime, accidents and violence whether or not there is a formal definition of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). A traumatic event can also be an event that has left an impression that causes us to over-react or react inappropriately in certain situations. TIR is also effective in the treatment of anxieties and phobias.
Eye Movement Therapies
Eye Movement Therapies include elements from Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR, Francine Shapiro Ph.D) and Eye Movement Technique (EMT, Fred Friedberg Ph.D). Eye movement therapies are useful in the processing of memories from past traumatic events and their subsequent emotional disturbances; they are also effective in the treatment of phobias. Emotional distress and anxiety caused by present circumstances can also be significantly reduced using these techniques.
